Hurricane Bay is popular among local divers. The water is fifty feet from the free parking along the road, and it gets deep fast. There are even some landmarks worth checking out, like the infamous sunken sailboat and an old truck chassis turned boat trailer.
- The Alley Cat sits in about 60 feet of water south east of the Mankato intersection. It’s hard to miss. It’s got a bunch of inside-joke kind of stuff inside, like a pair of skis and a shoe, for example. If you meet the right old diver around the lake, they’ll regale you with stories of why that stuff is in there and how funny it all is.
- The truck chassis trailer takes a little bit more navigation to find. Go to the second dock to the left (from the Mankato intersection) Swim out to the farthest buoy in line with the dock. Drop there. It’s deep. Head east until you hit 110′, then turn and head north until you find the chassis. You should be able to do this within your NDL and have a few minutes for pictures, but always pay attention to your gauges.
